Baras Bird Sanctuary | Things to do in Tacurong City-Sultan Kudarat

Baras Bird Sanctuary (4) Baras Bird Sanctuary (1) Baras Bird Sanctuary (5)
A unique attraction in Tacurong City, this site was formerly a black pepper plantation. Today, this 2.5-hectare land is home to over 20,000 wild migratory birds such as cattle egret, black-crowned night heron, great egret, and rufous night-heron. For bird watchers, the place is a must-visit due to the sheer number of birds living here. The land belongs to the family of Rey Malena, who in the mid-nineties, spotted four egrets in their peppercorn farm. The birds found the place peaceful and eventually sought refuge in the area. More birds started coming to their farm, until it became more of a bird sanctuary than a place to grow peppercorns. On 2002, the city government declared Baras Bird Sanctuary an ecotourism destination. Today, bird watchers from all over the world visit the province to participate in the Tacurong Bird Festival, the first and only bird watching festival in South Central Mindanao.

Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol
Attraction
3.68 km away

Located in the town of Isulan (capital of the province of Sultan Kudarat), the provincial capitol building is a huge white Arabic-inspired structure with a big gold dome at the center and a giant statue of Sultan Kudarat at the grounds. The Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol houses the different provincial government offices for the province of Sultan Kudarat including the office of the Provincial Governor and Vice Governor and the session hall for the provincial board.  But unlike other provincial capitol in other provinces in the country and aside from its fascinating architectural design, everything inside the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol were obviously expensive and luxurious.

Marawir Peak
Attraction
16.92 km away

Peacefully standing at the altitude of approximately 577 feet from its base, but technically it’s 2,654 feet above sea level. It is said to be a quick destination of local mountaineers as it extends a natural deterrent view of obstacles completely as you climb to its peak.
